Spaghetti Dinner to Benefit Austin Le Mon

Austin Le Mon is a local boy who has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Bone Cancer. He and his family are doing a lot of traveling back and forth to Gainesville for treatments. Austin's Hope Foundation is holding a spaghetti dinner and holiday shopping event at Tiano's Restaurant on November 14th. Dinner is from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

There will be several local vendors there with Holiday Ornaments, Crafts and other items available to purchase.

The meal includes pasta, bread, salad, drink and dessert, all for $10.00. You can purchase tickets in advance by calling Marianne at 478-9920 or Lorri at 314-5887. Take-outs available. Tiano's is located at 1000 Wayne Ave at the City Golf Course.

Cudas Unhooked Jalapeno Open

 

Clancy's Cantina Jalapeno open golf tournament is Saturday, November 5th. It starts at 8:00 am at Hidden Lakes Golf Club. It will be a two person team scramble and all proceeds will benefit Cudas Unhooked and the American Cancer Society. The entry fee is $60.00 and you can sign up to golf at Clancy's on Flagler Ave. Not a golfer, sponsor a hole for $100.00. There will be door prizes raffles and the first person to get a hole in one on hole #13 wins dinner for two for a year at Clancy's.

PAWS for Patriots

The Ponce Inlet Lions Club will be holding a fundraiser at Down the Hatch Restaurant to support PAWS for Patriots, a Southeastern Guide Dog Program that provides assistance dogs to disabled veterans. The event is November 11th from 12-5 pm. Down the Hatch is located at 4894 Front St in Ponce Inlet. For $10.00 you will get a meal of fried fish, cheese grits, coleslaw and hushpuppies. There is will be a silent auction, door prizes and gift basket raffles and an hourly 50/50 raffle.

Come on out and get some great food, learn more about the PAWS for Patriots program and support our military veterans!

Around Town-Things To Do

Here are some things coming up to do around New Smyrna Beach:

The Lions Club is holding their annual rummage sale on Friday, October, 28th and Saturday, October 29th beginning at 8:00am. The Lions Clubhouse is located at 2340 Sunset Drive. If you have items to donate to the rummage sale call the Lions at 386-426-1359.

The VFW Post 4250 will hold a haunted hay ride with food and games from 5-9pm on Saturday, October 29th. The VFW is located at 2350 Sunset Drive. The cost is free and the ride is for children 14 and younger. 

This Wednesday, October 26th, from 3-5pm the Edgewater Public Library will hold a fall festival. This will feature games, face painting, snacks and prizes.

Edgewater Fire Rescue holds Bingo every Tuesday at 6:30pm at the Association Fire Hall, located at 2616 Hibiscus Dr in Edgewater.

The Elks Club located at 820 W. Park Ave, has lunch daily from 11:30-2pm and on Tuesday they have a spaghetti dinner from 5pm-7pm.

VFW Post 4250 in NSB has Philly Cheesesteak lunch served from noon to 6pm on Wednesdays. Bike night is each Thursday starting at 5pm. Food and drinks available.

Sports~Whats Going On

There are a bunch of opportunities for both kids and adults to play sports around Southeast Volusia County this fall:

New Smyrna Parks & Rec has Youth Football for kids ages 5-15 years old. Registration is thru November 11th, the cost is 45.00 for NSB residents and $53.00 for non-residents. Games start January 8th. Register in person at 1000 Live Oak St between 8am and 5pm or online.

They are also holding a meeting for the upcoming Men's Softball Season. This will be held at 6:30pm on Monday, October 24th at 1000 Live Oak Street. The season is set to start November 14th. Deadline to register is November 11th.

New Smyrna Beach is also offering open gym each Friday from 6:30pm-9:00pm. The city gym is located at 1000 Live Oak Street.

Edgewater YMCA is now registering for Youth Co-Ed Volleyball. The cost is 45.00 for members and $65.00 for community members. Registration is going on through November 9th.

Youth Basketball registration is also being held through November 20th. This is for children ages 4-14 years of age and the cost is $45.00 for members and $65.00 for community members. The Y is located at 148 W. Turgot St. in Edgewater.

Creepy Halloween Paddle

Here is an excellent Halloween event for the brave out there.....

East Coast Paddle is holding their first ever Creatures of Mosquito Lagoon Halloween Paddle Tour.  At sunset paddleboarders will embark on a quest paddling through New Smyrna’s backwaters in search of local haunts. There will be plenty of tricks and treats as guides swap New Smyrna ghost stories and share candy. The best costume will win a discount on the next paddle tour. Costumes are welcome, but not required.

The monthly Art & Wine Walk is this Saturday on Flagler Ave. The Art Walk starts at 10am, featuring local arts, crafts, entertainment, food and of course the Wine Walk starts at 1:00pm. Get your Wine Pass at the corner of Pine and Flagler, they are $20.00.

Handcycle Race

Brooks Rehabilitation is sponsoring a Handcycle Race and Clinic on October 22ns and 23rd in Deland and DeLeon Springs. This two day event features three races, clinics, cash prizes and 100% of the proceeds will got to Brooks Rehab-Adaptive Sports Program. Fall Festival & Haunted Forest

There will be a Fall festival and Haunted Forest at the Southeast Volusia YMCA on Saturday, October 29th from 6:00pm-10:00pm. This is a fun, safe way to celebrate Halloween with your family. There will be Trunk or Treat, Games, Costume Contests and Prizes.

The YMCA is located at 148 W. Turgot Avenue in Edgewater.
ADMISSION: One Non-Perishable Food Item per Person
Proceeds donated to local food pantries through “Trick or Treat so Kids Can Eat”

This event is presented by The Edgewater Police Department, Southeast Volusia Family YMCA, and the New Smyrna Beach High School; in conjunction with Edgewater Leisure Services, Edgewater Fire Department, Southeast Volusia Chamber of Commerce, The News Journal, MH Audio, and the Edgewater Police Volunteers Association.

Joseph & The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

The Little Theatre of New Smyrna Beach is presenting Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat! This show is playing now and will continue through October 30th. All performances are at 8pm with the exception of the Sunday Matinees at 2pm.

The Theatre is located at 726 Third Avenue in New Smyrna Beach. Tickets are $20.00 for adults, $19.00 for seniors and students under 18 are $10.00

Surfari Halloween Spooktacular

The Smyrna Surfari Club Halloween Spooktacular will be held October 28-29th on Flagler Avenue. The festivities begin on Friday night with a silent auction and party at Clancy's Cantina. The Surf contest will be held Saturday morning at Flagler Ave Beach Ramp. Then on Saturday night there will be a raffle drawing and party also at Clancy's at 7:00pm. All proceeds from the weekend go toward the club's annual high school scholarship program.

Paint Out

Beginnning October 24th, A Festival of Plein Air Painting begins in New Smyrna Beach! Twenty-Six of the best Plein Air artists from Florida and New England will be in attendance. They will paint our beautiful landscapes and support a great cause in conjunction with the Friends of Canaveral.

This year they will help raise funds to support the Children's Environmental Learning Pavilion, which is under construction in the Park.

This six day event includes several special events including a Meet the Artist's Event, a Patron's Gala and a Sunset Paint out at JB's Fish Camp. Check out the entire schedule on the official website of the event!

Biktoberfest

The bikes will be rolling in this Thursday for Biketoberfest! This annual event will run through Sunday, October 16, 2011. The full calendar of events is available on the official event website. There will be several local events at Bruce Rossmeyer's Harley on SR 44 and at Pub 44 right next door.

Around Town-Weekend Events

It looks to be a rainy weekend at the beach. Here are some things to do....

Saturday, October 8th from 7:00 am until 2:00 pm the ACA Volunteer League Garage Sale will take place at ACA’s Community Arts Center at Harris House, 214 South Riverside Drive, New Smyrna Beach it is  free nd the Public is welcome!

The 2nd Annual Wine and Food Pairing is taking place on Canal Street tonight from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm.

The Luau to benefit Marine Discover Center is Sunday at Flip Flops. It is from 6-9pm and I hear they have some awesome items for the silent auction.

The Backwater and Billfish Tournaments are this weekend., not great weather for that.

Farmer's Markets will be held in Edgewater at Hawk's Park and New Smyrna Beach at Old Fort Park. In the event of thunder storms some normal participants are not there.

Weather permitting there will be racing at the New Smyrna Beach Speedway on Saturday night.

Edgewater Self Storage Yard Sale

Edgewater Self Storage will be holding their annual Yard Sale on October 22nd from 8:00am-12:00pm at their facility located at 200 N. Ridgewood Ave in Edgewater. They will follow the yard sale with a picnic for their tenants. Last year they had a huge turnout with a lot of great things available for sale. If you would like to participate give their office a call or stop by.

Chili & Chaps

The Annual Chili & Chaps event is scheduled for October 15th from 12:00 noon until 5:00pm. This fun filled day includes a chili cook-off and a bike show. Craft Beer and Chili tasting all along Flagler Avenue. Flagler Ave will be closed to traffic with the exception of motorcycles.

A Taste of Southeast Volusia

The wonderful ladies of BELONG will be doing a fundraiser to benefit the BOY'S & GIRL'S CLUB on Saturday, October 22nd from 12:00 noon until 5:00pm. Kids 12 and under are free and adults are $5.00.

 

A TASTE OF SOUTHEAST VOLUSIA will feature a ton of activities for the kids, including a Bounce House, an 18 foot slide, facepainting, a balloonist, games and more. There will be entertainment provided by the Pirates. Terri's Twirling Tornados, plenty of food by local restaurants, raffles, craft vendors and more. It will be a great day for a great cause!

Looking ahead a little bit to Halloween - three big events in New Smyrna Beach are the History Mystery Walking Tour on Canal Street, The Halloween Parade on Canal Street and the New Smyrna-Ween Creepy Crawl on Flagler. 

The Walking Tour takes place on October 28th from 6pm-9pm on Canal Street. Enjoy a tour of New Smyrna Beach's Historic Canal Street downtown that will include mystery and historical stories performed by recreated personalities from our city's past.  Start at the New Smyrna Beach Museum of History, 120 Sams Avenue, walking tour of Canal Street, The Historic District & Old Fort Park. Billfish Invitational & Backwater Tournament

Big weekend of fishing in New Smyrna Beach starts Thursday with the Billfish Invitational. The headquarters in located at Brannon Center, all around Canal Street and Riverside Park special events will be taking place. Raffles, Entertainment, Food and other Vendors. Canal Street will host a "Go Fish" Contest and their Food and Wine Pairings.

The Backwater Tournament also headquartered at Brannon Center will be on Friday and Saturday, and offers big cash prizes for fisherman of all ages.

Ride For Children

The 17th annual Bruce Rossmeyer Ride for Children, to benefit Camp Boggy Creek, leaves at 10 a.m. sharp on Sunday, Oct. 9 from Destination Daytona. The Ride takes you from Destination Daytona to Camp Boggy Creek in Eustis where you’ll enjoy a great meal and entertainment.

This annual tradition supports Camp Boggy Creek which is a year round camp which serves critically ill children throughout Florida.

Saturday at the Beach!

Plenty to do at the beach today...hit the Farmer's Market on Canal Street, the Gallery Walk on Canal Street starts at 10:00 a.m. There will be crafts, art and live music in Christmas Park at 11:00 a.m. 

There is racing tonight at the New Smyrna Speedway.
