Cudas Holiday Store

After you are done munching on turkey and all that goes with it. Take a few minutes and head over to your closet, garage, jewelry box, wherever you have stuff to get rid of.

Did you know that there is a Cuda Holiday Store? Loretta Devine and Laura Cloer (both employees at NSB High) started the Cuda Holiday Store several years ago. Sue Who and Sun Magic Beachwear, both located on Flagler Avenue are huge supporters and sponsors of this effort year after year.

Here is how it works..They actually set up a store in one of the classrooms, it is staffed by students for students. Any low income or student who needs help can shop in the store for holiday gifts for their family, or whoever they live with.  Many of our children who need help are not living with parents or family. Students can shop (free) for what they want to give and then take it to the wrapping table, students will gift wrap their “purchases” right there and they are ready for the holidays!

Where do they get the stuff? Donations. They take in anything…clean, gently used clothing & shoes for all ages, books, toiletry items, jewelry, purses, wallets, new and gently used toys. Wrapping paper, tape, gift boxes, tags and bows.

How can you help? The store opens right after the Thanksgiving break so get busy and clean out your closets, your book shelves, your gift wrap and your jewelry box. Grab an extra bottle of perfume or lotion at the store, pick up an extra toy or gift card when you are shopping.  Something very small will mean so much to someone who will not be able to give a gift otherwise.

What happens to items not used as gifts? Everything is recycled or donated. Broken jewelry goes to the art department, clothing that can be used goes to the drama department, toys and other items are donated to local social agencies in our community.

You can drop off your donations at the high school in NSB or shoot me an email and I will make arrangements for pick up. If you need more information contact Laura Cloer at the New Smyrna Beach High School at 386-4242555 ext. 38639

Whole Fresh Clean

Having hit the dreaded “middle age” I have been looking for an alternative way of eating that could help get me back on track to being healthy. I recently had the absolute pleasure of being introduced to Susan Essig from The entire concept of Whole Fresh Clean is to eat real food, in its most natural state, with minimal, real ingredients. It is that simple and includes locally grown, farm raised food that is not packaged, processed or full of additives, chemicals or preservatives. Seems pretty simple until you walk into a grocery store, right?  Well, it can be done and Whole Fresh Clean is here to help!

Sue is a Dr. Sears Certified Health Coach and her website is chocked full of information, recipes, tips and tricks. She researches health topics constantly and her blog has the most current information on a variety of food and health related stuff.

Sue can also be found on Twitter and Pinterest, her Facebook Page is updated daily with terrific information from all kinds of sources. If you want to talk with her one on one she is available for health and nutrition counseling. Plus, she offers workshops, online classes, corporate wellness programs, pantry makeovers and smart shopping trips.  She’s warm and engaging and just great to sit and chat with. Visit her website or social media pages or reach out in email at

I am very excited to be working with Sue and want to share her wonderfulness (is that a word) with you! Click here and check my Facebook Page every Friday for a brand new recipe from the Whole Fresh Clean Kitchen!

Run to The Sun

Support the Band

If you have ever had the pleasure of seeing the NSB Middle School Stingray band in action you know they are excellent! They perform several concerts during the year and participate in many community events. Like every other group at the school they have been the victim of budget cuts and rely on community and sponsor support to keep their program going. They are also getting these kids ready to go to the big time in the High School Band!

They do a really nice program in both winter and spring and are currently looking for sponsors and advertisers to participate.  they are offering the following: for a full page color ad, with your artwork, logo etc, it is $160 for the year, for a black and white, full page ad, the cost is $140, half page ad, $80, quarter page $40, and an eight page ad( business card sized) $25. If you would like to help contact Alicia Dukes at 386-690-3158 or email her at
