The Rebecca Foundation

The Rebecca Foundation's Cloth Diaper Closet- New Smyrna Beach chapter is re-opening! The Rebecca Foundation's Cloth Diaper Closet is a non-profit organization that helps families that are low-income, foster families, special needs families, and/or military families by providing them with a "cloth diaper package loan" for one year or until the family has an amount of their own cloth diapers equal to the amount that was loaned by The Rebecca Foundation's Cloth Diaper Closet.

Here's a bit of info about the program and organization: The Rebecca Foundation is a national program and advocacy organization taking action to end diaper need in the United States. With 1 in 3 families facing this crisis daily we are providing a sustainable, renewable alternative to single use diapers thereby eliminating health and sanitary issues in children, lowering stress levels of concerned parents, and increasing available funds to purchase basic necessities. Families struggle each day to provide the basic essentials for their children, food, shelter and clothing. With the ever growing cost of single, use disposable diapers families are having to choose between the basic essentials and diapers. We no longer want families to have to make this tough decision. Through our programs and our passionate team of individuals we are determined to change the world one cloth diaper at a time. We provide clean reusable cloth diapers to those families who cannot afford the continued cost of disposable diapers or the initial start up cost associated with switching full time to cloth diapers. We ease the expense by loaning diapers for a period of 1 year allowing families to save a significant amount of personal funds monthly. When families have been able to purchase their own supply of cloth diapers they are able to return their loan so another family may benefit.

Keely Farms Dairy

When I was a kid, a really long time ago, we had a milkman named Ward Wolcott. Ward brought our milk to the house in glass bottles and put it in a little insulated box on the porch. My mother planned her errands around the milk delivery so it would not be outside too long and get hot or freeze.

The day of milk delivery is back. If you are not acquainted with Keely Farms Dairy you should be! The dairy produces fresh milk from their own herd of Jersey Cows...there are 70 in all and I was pleasantly surprised to discover they all have names. These cows remain on the farm for life.

During my visit there was an abundance of calves roaming around, in the middle of all that a dog named Bruno. Why, Bruno keeps the coyotes away from the calves. No need to shoot the coyotes, they have Bruno!

There are chickens, pigs and ducks. All are roaming around free, well in a fence but free to wander. The pigs roam around into the woods and hang out and do whatever pigs do.

Back to the cows. Click here to read about them and how the dairy is operated. It is quite fascinating and refreshing to see.  These cows all look pretty happy, I petted a few and felt pretty good about drinking the milk, which by the way is delicious. They even have a biodigester that produces their own fertilizer from manure. Keely told me they hope to be recovering methane soon that will help power the farm.

You can also get fresh, locally grown produce delivered to your door, all grown at Tomazin Farms in Samsula. The produce box is packed with in season vegetables. I got one today and it is fantastic, a wide variety of vegetables, grown right here, picked fresh and delivered.

They also have farm fresh eggs available to purchase along with yogurt, cream cheese, kefir and more. Get the whole list here.

They have meat available, beef, pork and lamb. The Berkshire Pork is grown right there on the farm but the beef is from other local farms which also operate in a sustainable, responsible manner. Her much loved dairy cows are off limits. Just email Keely and let her know what you want.

If you want to visit the farm they are open from 7:00 am-7:00 pm. You can watch the milking from 5:00-7:00 pm daily.  More information here.

You can order products by emailing Keely at You can also go right out to the  farm and purchase eggs, milk and other dairy products. The produce needs to be ordered a day ahead so it can be picked and packed and all that.

Yes, you can buy organic eggs, milk, and vegetables at grocery stores, you can even have it delivered by local services. You never really know where it comes from and I am confident you are not ever going to be able to talk to the person who grew it, named the cows or fed the chickens and pigs if you get it from a grocery or other service. At Keely Farms Dairy you can not only talk to the person who named the cow, but probably pet the cow that produced the milk. I think that is great!

Keely Famrs Dairy is located at 2431 S. Glencoe Rd in New Smyrna Beach.

P.S. The Federal Pasteurized Milk Ordinance and Florida Statute 502.091 forbids the sale of unpasteurized milk products for human consumption. All Keely Farms products are labeled. "Not for Human Consumption" "sold as a treat for all pets"

Oh Snap Shotz

Kim Ingram from Oh Snap Shotz started her business last fall and has a different approach to photography. I started to write about her and realized that she said it best in her own words:

I began this business because I wanted to offer people affordable photography. So often  families cannot afford to hire a photographer because of the cost.  I wanted to set my business apart by being affordable, but still making a little money for myself as well.  I have been taking pictures for my own family and friends for years.  Since beginning my business in the fall of last year, I have found that what I enjoy most is spending time with my clients and giving them unique sessions tailored to what they want.  I offer the traditional photo sessions, where I have all the plans and ideas, but I prefer to have the client give me their ideas and work from there,

I offer all types of sessions - everything from families, seniors, individual portraits, maternity and children to sports photography.  I will even come to your event, such as a birthday party or soccer game, and take pictures for the client so they can enjoy the event rather than be behind a camera.

I also do wedding photography.  After talking with the client, I price weddings based on how many hours I am needed, and how long editing will take.  I also offer engagement and bridal portrait photo sessions as part of the wedding package.  As with my other sessions, I try to be affordable first and foremost.

I price my sessions on a case by case basis.  I provide the client with a sneak peek on Facebook and Instagram within 24 hours of the session.  I provide clients with a CD of edited photos and a release for prints typically around a week later.

I run my business in a very laid back manner.  If I need to spend a little extra time with a client because their 3 year old needs time to be comfortable with me, then that is what I do.  I want clients to walk away with memories to last a lifetime from a relaxed, affordable photo session.

You can contact Kim at:

1982 SR 44, Suite 194
New Smyrna Beach, FL 32168
Facebook:  oh Snap Shotz
Instagram:  oh Shap Shotz

She is currently working on her website and is also running a special. $50.00 for an one hour photo session (limit 5 people) within 20 miles. It is good through August 15th.

New Flag is Flying

A few weeks back there was some news coverage about the flag that flies over the old K-Mart Plaza in NSB. It was ripped and seriously faded. Rosemaire May heard about it. She is a local resident and lost her son Russell Lee while he was serving in the military on August 3, 1984.

Ms. May was talking about the flag with Josh Cotelesse of C's Waffles one day and she decided to take care of it. She contacted the American Legion who provided a new flag, They came out this morning, retired the old one and gave it to Ms. May in honor of her son. The new flag is now flying!

Thank you Ms. May, the American Legion and Russell Lee for your service to our country.
